![]() Learn From the Best What Is a Moodboard A moodboard, sometimes called an inspiration board, is a tool to help you hone your visual ideas at the start of a creative project. There are different shades of blue, a pastel colour scheme, brights colours, dark colours etc. The idea for my teen film is about a teen girl who really likes a boy in her class and she gets visions that begin to come. A moodboard can be key to the success of many a creative project, whether it’s planning a party or decorating a film set. The last moodboard displays the different types of colour schemes that we might feature on our film poster. The mise-en-scene moodboard consists of similar props, costume and location to the ones in our short film. This is a broad category that includes most of the elements in our short film that could be featured on our film poster. In this tutorial video I cover how to make moodboards with an emphasis on short film. The penultimate moodboard focuses on mise-en-scene. Moodboards are a powerful tool for developing your film's visual identity and collaborating with your crew. We could take inspiration from these designs and incorporate them into our design. Instead of just boring fonts, I've included some eye catching designs that have a similar theme to our shirt film. I create mood boards, colour scripts, physical and digital props, dress sets, and consult for GFX and CGI sequences. I have also included visually creative typography for example, The Lion King poster, where the text is placed in a silhouette of an image that represents an element from the film. Inspirations, colors, characters, references. These are the possible fonts that we might use on our film poster. Preparing a mood board for your film helps getting all your crew on the same page. ![]() I've included different types of fonts such as serif (Helvetica) and sans serif (French Script MT). and explicitly through omniscient narration or dialogue. ![]() In literature, mood is communicated subtly through the use of imagery, conflict, etc. ![]() The second moodboard that I've created empathizes typography and fonts. A mood is a feeling that can refer to the emotional state of mind of a person/character or the atmosphere of a story. In our short film we've used close ups, extreme close ups, mid shots and more therefore we might use one of these camera angles as the main image on our film poster. I gathered a number of images with camera angles that are similar to the ones in our short film. The first moodboard focuses on camera angles. These are the four moodboards that I've created for us to use for inspiration when designing our film poster. ![]()
